How much of a transformation can be made with just £1000 per room to play with?
This was the challenge set by the team at Ashorne Hill, to ‘refresh’ the 25 bedrooms within The Quad, to give them a new lease of life for a few years before they undergo a complete refurbishment.
As the estates team at Ashorne Hill could provide the labour to carry out the work, we had a budget of £1000 per room to provide the materials and products. We selected carpets, wall coverings, upholstery for head boards, new lighting and a new chair for each room. The biggest challenge was putting together a materials palette, as we decided to produce three different colour-ways to provide some differentiation across the 25 bedrooms. This gave us the task of selecting a range of wallpaper, vinyl upholstery, chair fabric and cushion/bed runner fabric, all available in three colour-ways that went with each other. This turned out to be harder than you might think, but the end result sits together very well.
A key change we made was to line the headboard panel with a silk wallpaper that sat alongside a silk effect vinyl for the upholstered headboard. As the headboard panel was previously wood finish, which in our view made the whole room feel dated, adding this wallpaper to both the headboard and also the mirror panel surrounds made a significant improvement.
The end result has worked extremely well, and was completed within the budget. The client has received lots of great feedback from guests and has even suggested the new look could last them much longer than they originally intended.
